Bed & Breakfast
We are unable to open our BnB as we wish to follow Dr. Henry's orders which state no non-essential travel. And a visit with us is not essential. However, we hope to be open by June 1, 2021. Thanks for your interest.
To make a reservation, please contact us at or phone 250-743-3273.
We are located in the Shawnigan Lake area on Vancouver Island nestled within a mature forest with numerous flower gardens, a large vegetable garden and a large pond and waterfalls built in the natural rocks of Vancouver Island. There is ample room to roam and discover or simply sit in one of the many garden "rooms" which include a gazebo, chairs under large trees, and sun-drenched patios. If it is raining or cold, you can enjoy your own private sitting area and you can even cozy up to a fireplace in one of the suites.
A barbeque is conveniently located close to the units and there are tables for dining outside.
Booking.com award for average 9.8 out of 10 ratings from our guests.
Arial view of the common patio.
The rooms are $150 Canadian per night with a cleaning fee of $50 per stay.
All our tastefully decorated rooms have private entrances, private bathrooms, free WiFi, TV, queen-sized beds, a fridge, a microwave and a table for eating your breakfast. The Casita and Garden Suites also have kitchenettes, two comfy chairs and an electric fireplace. The Nautical Room has a desk and chair. A common outdoor patio joins the rooms.
BREAKFAST AND GARDENS
A full breakfast is brought to your room between 8 and 9 AM so that you may enjoy it in the privacy of your own room. Alternatively, you may join others on one of the outside patio tables or simply stay close to your own door and eat at the table there.
The full garden at our front door welcomes you to your rooms at Stonekroft. Guests describe the back garden as an oasis lush with veggies and flowers and there are various places to sit and enjoy the quiet. There is a gazebo with a BBQ and table and a pizza oven sits on the lower patio with another table and umbrella. Around the other side of the house, there is a greenhouse but the specialty is a waterfall and pond nestled into the large island rock. You can enjoy several sitting areas on patios or chairs on the grass.
THINGS TO DO
Numerous wineries dot the landscape around the Cowichan Valley, a short 20 minute drive from Stonekroft.
There is a wonderful little museum in the Shawnigan Village and they will fill you in on all the stories behind the famous Kinsol Trestle.
Several famer's markets abound with fresh vegetables and fruit.
Stonekroft is a stones throw from the Canada trail that goes from Victoria to Lake Cowichan. Kinsol Trestle is a short drive away and there are many hiking trails nearby.
We love our visiting hummingbirds, Rufous in the summer and Anna's in fall and winter. Many bird-watching sites nearby.
Numerous eateries can be found in the delightful village (10 k from us) and a short drive will take you to other restaurants from gourmet to casual and some wineries serve meals.
A guest said: “The guesthouse, main house and gardens are beautiful. We loved the unique plants and the amazing architecture and how you built the garden and guesthouses around the large rocks”
Another guest said: "The gardens are especially lovely, the room's architecture is beautiful and welcoming and the breakfasts were amazing. Loved the hummingbirds too."
Due to the spread of the new variants of COVID 19, we are not able to open our guesthouse. We are sorry to have to close but need to follow Dr. Henry's orders for BC and that means no non-essential travel. Hopefully, we will be able to open sometime this year.
